The School of International Education of Dalian University of Technology was officially established on 8 March 2013, and is the education and teaching management department of Dalian University of Technology for international students. The School centralized the University’s international student admission, development and management, Chinese language teaching and research. Adhering to the University's mission and objective, the School of International Education is committed to educating international elites, and contributing to the construction of a world-renowned high-level research university.

There are 8 departments in the School, namely Chinese Language Teaching and Research Section, Chinese Language Training Center, General Office, Student Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, Admissions Office,  Short-Term Programs Office and Confucius Institute Management Office. SIE has a professional, experienced academic team of faculties more than 50% of whom are associate professors, and a team of administrative staff who have overseas study and living experience, serving at SIE for many years. SIE not only provides qualified and scientific language training and programs but also provides various services for international students including psychological consultation, visa service, study consultation, etc.

DUT’s international education started in the 1950s. Since then, over 16,000 international students from over 110 countries have studied here at DUT. Based on DUT’s science and technology research strength and excellent teaching and education resources, DUT’s international education has got sound developments with non-degree seeking programs and degree seeking programs. In the year of 2012, Dalian University of Technology was evaluated as “Liaoning Provincial Demonstration Base for International Students Education”. In 2018, DUT passed the quality certification for studying in China organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). In 2021, DUT was awarded Model Institution for International Education in Liaoning Province. Now, the non-degree seeking programs at DUT include International Summer University Programs, long or short-term Chinese Language Training Courses provided by SIE’s Chinese Language Center, Credit Transfer Programs, etc. Degree seeking programs include Chinese Language Bachelor Program for international students, English-medium Bachelor Programs, English-medium Master Programs, English-medium Doctoral Programs and all the other degree programs offered at DUT.

SIE is the active organizer for international students’ colorful campus life and Chinese culture experiences. Every year SIE organizes a lot of language practice and internships, cultural tours, business and industry visits, as well as a good number of campus activities including Chinese Speech Contest, DUT Campus Carnival, and International Cultural Festival etc. In 2024, DUT passed the national re-certification of the quality of higher education for studying in China with the highest grade A.
