On December 1, 2023, the 34th Chinese Speech Competition for International Students of Dalian University of Technology, organized by the School of International Education, was held as scheduled in the lecture hall of Bochuan Library. Professor Duan Yuping, Dean of the School of International Education, attended and delivered a speech at the competition. Teachers and international students attended the competition.

The speech competition was officially launched on November 4, upon which students submitted applications and prepared earnestly, and finally 23 students from 14 countries were shortlisted for the final. The competitors were divided into three groups of primary, intermediate and advanced levels. On the site, the competitors vividly narrated their stories with China in Chinese language, by sharing their feelings in study and life, their wonderful experiences in travelling, their unique perception and understanding of Chinese culture, and their deep friendship to China. The competitors’ wonderful performances won bursts of applause from the audience. This speech competition demonstrated international students’ excellent Chinese language proficiency as well as their aspiring spirits together with their dreams, passion and pursuit of study in China.

After fierce competition, PHASAMON TANAPHIROONTORN from Thailand (primary), THI MAI HUONG NGUYEN from Vietnam (intermediate) and TAE BOM RI from North Korea (advanced) won the first prize in their respective groups with their speeches titled "The Chinese Way of Greeting", "Benevolence" and "Gratitude". Five competitors, including THET HSU WAI from Myanmar, NGOC HAN LE from Vietnam and GRACESELA KRISTIANA AVIANTO from Indonesia, won the second prize. Six competitors, including MUHANNAD MOHAMMAD A ABUHUMOUD from Saudi Arabia, TATIANA KALAPOVA from Russia and MADAI YINGJIE LIU VALDIVIA from Bolivia, won the third prize, and the rest competitors won the excellence award.

The Chinese Speech Competition for International Students at Dalian University of Technology is a stage for international students to display their Chinese learning achievements. It has been successfully held for 33 sessions so far, and nearly 1,000 international students have staged at this competition. With their fluent Chinese and spirited performance, they have shared their growth experience in China's study and life and profound experience of Chinese culture. Through this competition, international students not only show themselves, better feel the rhyme of Chinese as well as the beauty of Chinese language, but also demonstrate their close connection with China and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding and communication. The School of International Education will, as always, promote the high-quality development of international students education in China, and strive to cultivate international young people who can well tell Chinese stories and well spread the voice of China.
