On the afternoon of March 14th, the opening ceremony and orientation of the 2024 spring semester of the School of International Education was held in the lecture hall of the Haichuan Building. Full of expectations, all the international freshmen gathered together to start a journey of studying at DUT. Duan Yuping, dean of the School of International Education, attended and delivered a speech. International Chinese teachers and officers from the Immigration Bureau and the university attended the event.
In his speech, Prof. Duan Yuping extended a warm welcome to the new students, introduced the school's achievements in the field of international student training, and the opening of a new stage of life for international freshmen. The Dean also expressed three expectations: one is the hope that the students strive to become a bridge between people, by learning different languages and cultures, understanding the differences, expanding in common, mutual respect, and equality. Second, he hopes all international students will strive to become practitioners of the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. With the Chinese language as the medium, they are encouraged to learn more about Chinese culture, understand China, and communicate with the world. Through the continuous understanding of China, students can appreciate the concept of peace, harmony, openness, and inclusiveness, to be an international teller of China's stories. Third, he also hopes that the new students can become the creators of a better future for the world and establish the concept of common destiny through study and life in China.
Song Peng, a representative of international Chinese teachers, and Chen Xingxing (PANNARAISORN MISSAKASAWET), a representative of freshmen and winner of the DUT scholarship, made speeches successively. On behalf of all the teachers, Ms. Song Peng offered practical academic advice to the new students. Chen Xingxing shared her experience learning Chinese and expressed her expectations and confidence in undergraduate study. At the ceremony, the representatives of the continuing students in the language training program who had made the most progress and performed well in their study from the last semester received an excellent academic award. This encouraged the freshmen to devote themselves to studying and living up to their time as much as possible.
In the lecture section, Zhao Dongzhe, the police officer from the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau of the Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau, interpreted the laws and regulations of foreigners in China, to help international students better adapt to the new environment and enhance their awareness of the law. Li Wei, vice director of the Security Department of DUT, lectured on campus safety for the new international students. The recruitment, academic, and student affairs offices of the School of International Education explained the admission, courses, and campus activities that the students may be concerned about so that they could enjoy school life more smoothly.
Next to the ceremony, the School of International Education will continue to carry out activities such as ice-breaking games, and campus and city tours, to provide opportunities for the international students to feel the charm of the university, perceive the culture of the city, interact with each other, accumulate the local experience, and link with the environment.
