On the afternoon of April 19th, SIE invited Professor Zheng Yanqun, doctoral supervisor at Beijing Language and Culture University, to conduct an academic lecture on the theme "Empowering Chinese Language Teaching—From Quantitative Analysis to Modeling Strategies and Applications." The lecture was chaired by Associate Professor Guo Hanning, and attended by faculties and all graduate students majoring in international Chinese education.
Professor Zheng Yanqun's lecture focused on four aspects: the digital transformation of the big data era, quantitative modeling of classroom teaching, modeling of Chinese grammar teaching structure and process, and the design and application of intelligent teaching analysis algorithms. Professor Zheng pointed out that in the era of big data, digitization has penetrated many aspects and has close ties with Chinese language teaching. Taking the MOOC platform as an example, she briefly outlined the process of collecting learner learning data and researching learning behaviors, thereby elucidating the importance of dataization in language learning. During the lecture, Professor Zheng demonstrated to the teachers and students how to model the structure and process of Chinese grammar teaching, and used specific research cases to demonstrate the design and application of intelligent teaching analysis algorithms.
At the end of the lecture, teachers and students from SIE engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Zheng on two major issues arising from the lecture: "how to collect effective data and how to analyze data" and "smart teaching."
In today's rapidly developing digital and intelligent era, quantitative analysis and modeling empower the teaching of international Chinese education as one of the important development directions. This issue of the international education lecture series broadened the research horizons of our teachers and students and deepened their understanding of the frontier development trends in the field. In the future, SIE will continue to carry out activities such as the international education lecture series, to build a platform for exchanging cutting-edge directions and promote the improvement of teaching research capabilities.
