On June 24th, the doctoral dissertation titled Research on the Effects of Female Representation on Internal Control Quality: New Insights from Listed Firms in Egypt and China, authored by Ahmad Ebaya, an Egyptian PhD student supervised by Professor Qin Xuezhi from the School of Economics and Management of our university, won the first prize in the Financial Sciences category at the "Best Doctoral Dissertation Award in Administrative and Financial Sciences in the Arab World" held at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The award was personally presented by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and is one of the highest academic honors in the business field in the Arab world.

Ahmad Ebaya is a PhD student in Accounting of Batch 2019 at the School of Economics and Management of our university. He conducted research on the issue of "The impact of female members on the quality of corporate internal control" and has published 3 academic papers in internationally renowned journals. Through empirical analysis, he provided an innovative framework for understanding the impact of female members on the quality of corporate internal control in the Arab region. He stated, "It is an immense honor to stand on the podium representing Dalian University of Technology and my home country Egypt. I will continue to work tirelessly, live up to the cultivation of my alma mater, and strive to publish more excellent academic achievements."

The "Sharjah Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation in Administrative and Financial Sciences in the Arab World" has been established for 22 years. The evaluation criteria include blind review assessment (accounting for 50%, focusing on research innovation, literature coverage, methodological rigor, and policy value), international publications (accounting for 30%, only including achievements from top Q1/Q2 journals), and on-site defense (accounting for 20%, focusing on academic expression and depth of problem-solving). A total of 131 doctoral dissertations from 16 Arab countries participated in this year's selection, among which only 69 were shortlisted in the Financial Sciences category, and the top three were finally selected.

"From topic selection to the completion of the dissertation, Ahmad Ebaya has always maintained a keen insight into the practical issues of Arab finance," said Professor Qin Xuezhi, the supervisor, who could not hide his pride when talking about his student. "He focused on Egypt's national conditions and people's livelihood concerns, and deeply integrated China's financial reform experience with the characteristics of the Arab market. This kind of academic research is a vivid interpretation of Dalian University of Technology's educational philosophy of 'global vision and local practice'." Professor Qin particularly mentioned that "Ahmad Ebaya's dissertation provides a rational basis for Egypt and the Arab world to re-recognize the irreplaceable role of women in the economic and social development of contemporary society."

This award not only demonstrates Ahmad Ebaya's personal academic strength but also reflects the outstanding achievements of our university in international talent cultivation.
