On September 30, 2025, the School of International Education (SIE) at Dalian University of Technology (DUT) held an academic guidance session for new students of the 2025 undergraduate class in the Chinese Language program. The session aimed to help the freshmen better adapt to campus life and plan their academic studies effectively. It was part of SIE's "Knowledge & Action" Academic Advisory Series and was hosted by Ms. Zhang Xinyuan from the Teaching and Academic Affairs Office. Participants included Prof. Guo Hanning, Director of the Chinese Language Teaching & Research Section, class advisors Zhao Lijun, Wang Jiatian, and Song Peng, as well as outstanding student representatives.

During the session, Ms. Zhang Xinyuan systematically introduced key academic procedures, including student status management, course selection, attendance policies, and related regulations. She emphasized the importance of completing registration on time and explained the procedures for any changes in student status, helping the new students fully understand the basic requirements of academic management.

Prof. Guo Hanning then provided a detailed overview of the Chinese Language Program’s training plan and graduation requirements. She introduced the curriculum structure, focusing on the two major tracks—International Business and Trade and International Chinese Education—and outlined the credit requirements. Prof. Guo also highlighted the "Teacher Office Hour" system and the "Academic Support Program," encouraging students to make full use of university resources, strengthen their Chinese language foundation, and prepare for future academic and career development.

Three class advisors—Zhao Lijun, Song Peng, and Wang Jiatian—shared insights based on their teaching experience. They encouraged students to make the most of their university years, build a solid academic foundation, utilize learning resources such as the library, continuously improve their language skills, and actively participate in extracurricular activities and language practice to achieve well-rounded personal development.

Senior students Tang Xiulian and Li Yamu shared their experiences in course planning, time management, improving Chinese language proficiency, and cross-cultural adaptation, offering practical advice for the new students.

As the first academic lesson for the new students, the guidance session covered multiple aspects, including program introduction, academic planning, faculty guidance, and peer support, providing systematic academic orientation for international students at the beginning of their university journey.

With the "Knowledge & Action" initiative, SIE will continue to improve the academic support system for international students, support DUT’s "Double First-Class" construction and internationalization efforts, and contribute to cultivating high-level global talents who understand and befriend China.
