To help the 2025 international postgraduate students accurately grasp academic policies and scientifically plan their research paths, the School of International Education (SIE) of Dalian University of Technology (DUT) successfully held a special "Knowledge & Action" academic consultation session for international students in Room 120, Block B of Haichuan Building on the afternoon of October 11th, 2025. With the theme of "Policy Interpretation and Experience Sharing", the event was hosted by Ms. Du Xueling from the Academic Training and Affairs Office of the school. Associate Professor Guo Hanning, Assistant to the Dean, and two outstanding doctoral graduates also participated, bringing a rich, practical and instructive academic exchange feast to the 2025 international postgraduate students from different majors.

At the beginning of the event, Associate Professor Guo Hanning delivered a speech. She pointed out that this consultation session is an important measure for the school to continuously improve the academic support system for international students, aiming to help international postgraduates quickly adapt to the pace of scientific research and smoothly advance their academic progress. She especially reminded the students to focus on core contents such as academic progress and research ethics standards, and encouraged them to actively interact with the guests and effectively transform the useful experience into research motivation.

In the experience-sharing session, the invited guest - Dr. Raheel Asghar from the Program of Biochemical Engineering - systematically sorted out the key nodes for international postgraduates in the academic process based on his own research experience and academic achievements. He emphasized that Dalian University of Technology has strict requirements on the academic norms of international postgraduates, and suggested that students should be familiar with various policies, make full use of the administrative support of the School of International Education, the professional guidance of supervisors and the peer mutual assistance network, so as to build a comprehensive academic support system. Later, Dr. Azhar Ali from the program of Engineering Management shared his own research experience, encouraging students to actively pay attention to the application information of research funds and improve their research capabilities through participating in project practice. Combining his personal experience, he also shared the experience of balancing research and life, advocating the concept of "efficient research and healthy life". He suggested that students should plan their time reasonably, properly participate in sports activities and academic associations, and effectively relieve research pressure.

In the policy interpretation session, Ms. Du Xueling gave a detailed explanation on the key policies that international postgraduates generally care about, such as student status management, course selection process, credit requirements, course exemption and degree application, helping the new postgraduates fully understand the basic requirements of academic management.

During the interactive Q&A session students actively raised questions, and the two doctoral graduates answered them one by one based on their personal experiences. The on-site communication was in-depth and sufficient.

Previously, SIE had held an academic guidance session for the 2025 undergraduate students of the Chinese Language program. The launch of this postgraduate consultation session has further improved the academic support system for international students covering all academic stages. In the future, SIE will continue to be guided by the "Knowledge & Action" brand, and carry out diversified activities such as policy interpretation, scientific research method training and thesis writing guidance in light of the actual needs of students in different academic stages and majors. It will help international students achieve academic growth and personal development at Dalian University of Technology, and continuously inject new impetus into the university's efforts to cultivate high-level international talents who "understand China, befriend China and possess international competitiveness".
