On the afternoon of March 6, the opening ceremony of international students in the spring semester of 2026 was successfully held in the lecture hall of Haichuan Building at the main campus of Dalian University of Technology. International students from all of the world gathered together with new expectations and dreams, starting their learning journey in Dalian University of Technology. Professor Duan Yuping, dean of the School of International Education, the SIE's leadership team, teacher representatives, and 239 international freshmen from France, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and 35 other countries attended the ceremony.

Professor Duan Yuping delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of all teachers, students, and employees of SIE and alumni at home and abroad, he warmly welcomed international freshmen from all over the world. Dean Duan introduced the development process of the school, the characteristics of SIE management, and the achievements in the field of international student training, and expressed three expectations for international freshmen who are about to enter a new stage of life: First, students should devote themselves to learning and build a solid foundation for language. Students should make full use of the rich learning resources provided by the school to enhance classroom communication and constantly improve their language ability and comprehensive quality. The second is to be open and inclusive, and make friends widely. I hope everyone can enhance understanding in mutual learning, gain friendship in mutual respect, and jointly create a warm, harmonious, and inclusive learning and life atmosphere. Third, new students should have the courage to explore and achieve higher goals. In the face of many challenges, such as language barriers, cultural differences, and academic pressure, with an optimistic attitude, students are encouraged to unlock their own potential. At the same time, the young generation should dare to step out of their comfort zone, actively participate in various cultural and practical activities, and develop their talents in practice.

Subsequently, Ma Ying, a teacher representative of the Chinese Training Center, and Li Zhande, a freshman representative from Russia, spoke one after another. On behalf of all teachers, Ma Ying welcomed the freshmen and sent wishes and expectations to the students about language learning and life abroad. Li Zhande shared his stories with China and introduced his study plan and expectations for the new semester. He hopes to enjoy his time in China, learn Chinese culture well, and lay a good foundation for the next step of academic education.

At the ceremony, representatives of Chinese students who had excellent academic performance in the last semester were awarded, and this encouraged freshmen to be diligent in their studies and live up to their potential.

During the orientation, the teachers responsible for enrollment, academic affairs, and student affairs provide detailed guidance to freshmen, covering academic and student enrollment publicity, on-campus academic guidance, and campus life guidance, to help them understand and adapt to life at DUT. As a representative of continuing students, Huang Ying from Benin shared her learning experience with everyone in school. She talked about her progress in study, life, and other aspects during her time in school, and encouraged everyone to make friends from all over the world, gain friendships, and grow together.

Previously, in order to help international freshmen adapt to life in China and on campus as soon as possible, and enhance safety and legal awareness, the School of International Education planned the "First Lesson of Safety Education". On the morning of March 6, Li Heming, a police officer of the Entry-Exit Administration of Dalian Public Security Bureau, and Li Wei, Vice Director of the Security Department of DUT, focused on the campus regulations, safety precautions, visa policies, and relevant laws that students are concerned about, combined with vivid cases, and offered lectures to the new students to ensure their safe study abroad.

The opening ceremony and orientation are rich in content, allowing international students to see the diverse aspects from different perspectives, enhancing the sense of rules of freshmen, strengthening the educational management, helping freshmen integrate into the campus and new life. From next week, the School of International Education will also carry out activities such as cross-cultural practice and "perceiving Dalian", providing international students with opportunities to experience the charm of the city, perceive urban culture, and engage in interactive exchange and learning. Wish every international student could write a new life chapter and live up to their youth.
