On September 3, to help the Class of 2026 international students quickly integrate into campus life, familiarize themselves with academic requirements, and smoothly embark on their journey of studying in China, the School of International Education organized a special orientation event for new students. All faculty and staff members from the School's Academic Affairs and Training Office, Student Affairs Office, Admissions and Outreach Office, and General Office participated in the event, delivering thematic presentations on academic planning, student enrollment management, scholarship policies, campus life, accommodation safety, and medical insurance, thereby providing comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and precise guidance alongside caring services for the international new students.
In the academic guidance session, Du Xueling, Graduate Program Academic Coordinator, and Zhang Xinyuan, Undergraduate Academic Coordinator, respectively focused on the graduate and undergraduate training programs, systematically introducing the curriculum structure, credit requirements, course registration rules, and operation of the academic affairs system, thereby helping new students fully familiarize themselves with the academic timeline. The two instructors conducted detailed hands-on demonstrations aligned with the course registration process, explaining step by step how to review the training plan, understand graduation credit requirements, plan course enrollment, query course schedule information, and log into the course registration system, laying a solid foundation for new students to complete registration successfully. Qiao Xinyue, Non-Degree Program Academic Coordinator, delivered a detailed presentation on non-degree student training and teaching management requirements, covering curriculum structure, attendance and assessment, grade management, and completion certificate processing, helping non-degree new students clarify learning requirements and academic affairs procedures.
Fu Chongbin, International PhD Student Counselor, delivered a presentation on scholarship management regulations. He provided a detailed introduction to various policies, including scholarship attendance registration, daily management, annual review, and extension applications, particularly focusing on the latest adjustments to the University's scholarship management with targeted explanations, answering questions and addressing concerns for new students. Liu Xin, International Undergraduate Student Counselor, and Zhao Yuting, Non-Degree Student Counselor, delivered a special presentation on campus life guidance for new students. Focusing on campus activities and life service matters of concern to students, they provided detailed guidance and comprehensively explained all campus rules and regulations, covering campus life, cultural exchange, and related areas, thereby providing clear and convenient guidance for international new students to efficiently handle various campus affairs.
Huang Yue from the General Office provided a detailed introduction to on-campus and off-campus accommodation management regulations, with a focus on on-campus dormitory application procedures, check-in and check-out rules, common area usage requirements, and safety precautions for off-campus accommodation, guiding new students to conscientiously abide by accommodation management regulations and jointly foster a safe, civilized, and orderly living environment.
Liang Ronghua and Wang Zimo from the Admissions and Outreach Office delivered admissions presentations to current degree-seeking and non-degree international students, respectively. Highlighting the University's comprehensive educational strength, they provided detailed introductions to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs taught in Chinese and English, the distinctive training model of the Huada International Class, as well as the curriculum systems for Chinese language training and preparatory programs. They also offered meticulous explanations of application procedures, the CSCA test, language admission requirements, and various scholarship policies. Grounded in the actual growth and development needs of current international students, the presentation outlined diverse development pathways—including progression from non-degree programs to degree-seeking education, as well as further studies and employment opportunities for degree-seeking students—guiding students in formulating sound personal academic plans. They encouraged students to remain at the University with peace of mind to complete their studies, while also serving as ambassadors for China-foreign exchange: sharing their study and life experiences at DUT with family and friends in their home countries, thereby inspiring more young people from their home countries to pursue their education at Dalian University of Technology.
Finally, staff members from Lianhua International Insurance Brokerage (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Dalian Life Insurance respectively presented an overview of medical insurance for international students studying in China, and provided detailed explanations on insurance coverage, claims procedures, and key considerations, thereby offering clear guidance for new students accessing medical care in China.
This orientation program is not merely a centralized presentation of rules and regulations, but also a launching journey of cultural integration and value guidance. Through systematic study of the campus life and study guide, international new students have further strengthened their awareness of rules and cross-cultural adaptability, and enhanced their sense of belonging and identity with the DUT campus. It is our hope that all 2026 international new students will take this orientation as a starting point, dedicate themselves to scholarly pursuits and forge friendships along the banks of the Lingshui River, and grow into high-caliber talents with DUT heritage, Chinese sentiment, and an international perspective, thereby contributing their youthful energy to promoting China-foreign cultural exchanges and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
