On September 17, the orientation for the 2026 intake of international students was held at the Student Activity Center. A total of 1,374 new international students from 76 countries — including Germany, France, Italy, Georgia, Russia, Morocco, and Pakistan — gathered at Dalian University of Technology (DUT), embarking on a new chapter of their journey of studying in China. Liu Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the DUT Party Committee and Vice President of the University, attended the event and delivered a speech. Hao Peng, Head of the Exit-Entry Administration Detachment of Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau, Wang Jue, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Duan Yuping, Dean of the School of International Education, together with the leadership team of the School and faculty representatives, joined the new students at the event.
On behalf of the University, Vice President Liu Wei extended a warm welcome and sincere congratulations to all 2026 international students. In his address, he encouraged them to devote themselves to diligent study and hone their professional competence, proactively embrace the digital and intelligent transformation, and leverage digital and intelligent tools to empower their academic studies and research innovation. He also called on them to uphold morality and discipline, cultivate moral integrity, consciously observe Chinese laws, regulations and university rules, respect cultural diversity, and live in harmony with one another while learning from each other. He further encouraged them to experience China firsthand and serve as envoys of mutual learning among civilizations — bringing their observations and reflections in China back to their home countries, telling the story of the real China, and contributing their youthful strength to fostering people-to-people bonds and mutual learning among different civilizations.
At the university badge-pinning ceremony, Hao Peng, Head of the Exit-Entry Administration Detachment of Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau, Wang Jue, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Duan Yuping, Dean of the School of International Education, pinned the university badges on 12 international student representatives. The ceremony carried the hope that the students would hold fast to their aspirations, embody the character of DUTers around the world, and turn their youthful dreams into reality. The badges are not only a symbol of the "DUTer" identity, but also a token of the University's heartfelt expectations for its new international students.
Zhao Honghua, Associate Professor of the School of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, spoke as the faculty representative. She encouraged the new students to stay curious, express themselves bravely and treat others with kindness — to step both inside and beyond the classroom, and to grow through exploring Dalian, learning languages and taking part in activities, striving to become thinkers, leaders and bridges that connect different cultures.
Following the address, representatives of the 2026 intake from Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Morocco, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other countries took to the stage for a recitation. Speaking in Chinese for the first time, they voiced their expectations for their journey at DUT and shared their feelings about life as international students, presenting a vibrant display of youthful vitality amid multicultural exchange.
To conclude the orientation, the Exit-Entry Administration Detachment of Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau delivered an educational lecture to the new students on Chinese laws and regulations related to living in China, and conducted on-site visa interviews for them.
In recent years, the School of International Education has been implementing a project to enhance the quality of its student intake, innovating recruitment and publicity approaches, developing flagship recruitment programs, and striving to build new advantages in enrollment. In 2026, the University achieved new records in the number of international students admitted, the number of source countries and the overall quality of the intake. Looking ahead, the School of International Education will continue to deepen reform with a global vision, further polish the "Study at DUT" brand, and steadily enhance its international influence. May all new students take the shores of Lingshui Lake as their starting point and write their own chapter of youth at DUT.
