The School of International Education Conducts Research in Universities and Research Institutes in East China

To learn advanced experience in international student education, deepen inter-university cooperation and exchanges, and boost the high-quality development of the university’s international education programs, Duan Yuping, Dean of the School of International Education, led a research team to conduct special field investigations at Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, and the Ningbo Research Institute of Dalian University of Technology from September 28 to 30.

At Fudan University, Su Kui, Director of the Office of International Student Affairs, gave the research group a detailed introduction to the basic profile of its enrolled international students, featured programs for international students in China, the categorized talent‑training model, as well as innovative measures and practical experience concerning integrated management at both the university and school levels. During the visit, the two sides had a pragmatic and efficient exchange on improving the quality and structure of international student sources, coordinating high‑level talent cultivation with discipline development, and designing high‑end study‑in‑China programs.

At Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ma Wei, Director of the International Student Development Center, systematically reviewed the university’s history of internationalized schooling, and elaborated on its international student admission mechanism, the integrated Sino‑foreign management model, as well as experience in promoting the two‑way flow of global talents through academic exchanges, international summer schools, research internships and other programs. Both sides conducted in‑depth discussions on key topics including the expansion of international student recruitment and innovative talent‑training models. The discussion provided valuable references for our university to continuously optimize international student admission and training modes.

At Zhejiang University, Wang Yufen, Executive Vice‑Dean of the School of International Education, shared Zhejiang University’s solid practical experience in improving the quality of enrolled international students, refined student administration, digital development of educational management, and international alumni development. The two sides held in‑depth discussions and exchanges on key priorities including strategies for enhancing student source quality, faculty team building, and distinctive practices for short‑term programs. They exchanged working ideas, which offered actionable practical thoughts for breaking through relevant work bottlenecks in the follow‑up work.

At the Ningbo Research Institute of Dalian University of Technology, Hao Hai, Dean of the Institute, introduced the R&D achievements of its respective technological innovation centers to the visiting delegation. He noted that leveraging its geographical advantages together with local port and manufacturing foundations, the Ningbo Research Institute of Dalian University of Technology could build a high‑quality scientific research practice platform and a cultural exchange window for international students of the university. Afterwards, both sides held discussions on developing customized international talent training programs jointly with enterprises and constructing internship and practice platforms for international academic participants.

This series of field investigations has provided valuable experience for our university to further optimize the admission system for international students in China and innovate management models. Going forward, the School of International Education will fully absorb the outcomes from these investigations, continuously deepen cooperation with the three universities as well as DUT Ningbo Research Institute in program development, student exchanges, cultural practice and other fields, innovate international talent‑training modes, and make every effort to promote the high‑quality development of international student education in China.
