In order to improve the training system for Chinese-Russian and Russian-Chinese translators and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and other countries, Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University (BSU Confucius Institute for short below) successfully held the Translation Professional Qualification (Level) Examination (CATTI) in Russian from December 16th to 17th, 2023. The examination covered Level 2 and Level 3 interpretation and translation, with nearly 40 candidates from different age groups, work fields, and educational backgrounds participating. This exam is remotely supported and supervised by the relevant departments of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, the China Foreign Languages Administration, and the CATTI Project Management Center of the China Foreign Languages Administration in Beijing.
CATTI is a translation professional qualification examination which is implemented nationwide in China and oriented to the whole society. It evaluates and recognizes the bilingual and mutual translation ability and level of reference personnel in interpreting or translation. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the China Foreign Languages Administration, CATTI is the largest and the most influential translation examination in the world. In 2017, as the only foreign language test in China, it was included in the list of vocational qualifications of The State Council. This test center is the first overseas testing center for the CATTI exam, and it has been held for the fifth time since its establishment in 2019. To ensure the smooth progress of this exam, the leadership of BSU Confucius Institute attaches great importance to it and has specially formed a 13-person examination management team, with Ms. Marina as the overall leader and Ms. Wang Yongjie as the technical leader.
With strong support from relevant departments, Ms. Marina, Ms. Wang Yongjie, and Ms.Ардюк Татьяна, the Belarusian technical teacher were appointed before the exam they have repeatedly debugged the examination equipment and developed a detailed examination plan. At the same time, multiple unified training sessions were conducted for invigilators, mainly including clarifying the job responsibilities of examiners, examination procedures, and emergency response measures.In addition, the examination team conducted multiple complete mock exams before the exam, predicting, analyzing, and solving various possible problems that may arise during the exam period, fully ensuring the smooth progress of the formal exam.
In the examination organization, this examination center strictly checked each candidate's admission ticket, personal valid identification documents, and personal photos in accordance with the examination organization standards, and guided candidates into the examination room in an orderly manner. The invigilators of the examination team conscientiously fulfilled their duties, strictly implemented the discipline of the examination room and the requirements of relevant examination work; From the on-site inspection, it could be seen that the examination room is in good order, and candidates consciously abide by the discipline of the examination room and had a proper attitude towards the exam.
After the exam, the examination team reflected, summarized, and focused on reviewing the organizational work of our team. In the future, we will continuously improve the translation qualification examination work and strive to provide more solid translation qualification examination service guarantee for foreign language talents working and studying in Eastern Europe and other regions.
