The 2023 “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship” Awards Ceremony was held at the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture on the afternoon of December 18. More than 600 people attended the ceremony, including Mr. Xie Xiaoyong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Bazanovich Alexander, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus, Professor Kurnović, Vice-principal of Belarusian State University, and principals and representatives of teachers and students from various Belarusian universities,such as Minsk No. 23 Middle School, primary and secondary schools, as well as award-winning students and their parents.
This year’s Ambassador Scholarship has selected 36 recipients of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, 12 demonstration schools for Chinese language teaching, and 12 outstanding Chinese language teachers from Belarus. Ambassador Xie presented certificates and prizes to the winning students, to the principals of Belarusian schools who received the honorary title of Model School and to the teachers who received the honorary title of Excellent Chinese teacher.
Jasmine（Алимова Ольга Геннадиевна）, a student of the Chinese Master Class of BSU Confucius Institute, and Scarlett（Полукошко Анастасия Борисовна）, a teacher of undergraduate class, stood out and won the “Ambassador Scholarship” this year.
Teacher Шиманович Наталья Семеновна of BSU, Ятченя Дмитрий Васильевич of teaching point at Brest No.7 Middle School, Астапенко Кристина Владимировна of Confucius Classroom at Olsha No.16 Middle School, Юркевич Светлана Александровна of teaching point at Minsk No.12 Middle School, the above four people won the title of “2023 Excellent Chinese Teachers of Belarus”.
BSU Confucius Institute’s two Confucius classrooms and one teaching point won the title of “Chinese Teaching Demonstration School”. They are: Minsk No. 23 Middle School（ГУО «Гимназия с белорусским языком обучения №23 г. Минска»）, Orsha No. 16 Middle School（ГУО «Средняя школа №16 г. Орши»）, Minsk No. 12 Middle School（ГУО «Средняя школа № 12 г. Минска»）.
Since the establishment of the “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship” by the Chinese Embassy in Belarus in 2016, it has stimulated the learning enthusiasm of countless Belarusian Chinese learners and also encouraged and stimulated the work enthusiasm of Chinese educators. So far, 264 Belarusian Chinese learners with excellent academic performance had been awarded, including outstanding students from the Confucius Institute of BSU. Since last year, the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship had added the “Chinese Language Teaching Demonstration School” award, and this year, the “Local Excellent Chinese Teacher” award has been added to recognize outstanding front-line teachers who are diligent and willing to contribute.
The award of the “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship” to a number of outstanding local teachers of the BSU Confucius Institute is an affirmation of the excellent teachers and a commendation for the work of the BSU Confucius Institute in Chinese teaching over the years. It will mobilize the enthusiasm of Belarusian Chinese teachers, promote the development of Chinese language teaching in Belarus, and inspire more Belarusian teenagers to understand Chinese language and culture.
