On July 5th-19th, 2016 (Beijing time), Dalian University of Technology and the Confucius Institute at Belarusian State University jointly held a two-week summer camp with the theme of Chinese learning. 34 college and high-school students from different universities in Belarus participated in the camp.
Contrapuntally taught according to different grades of Chinese proficiency, 34 students had made great progress in Chinese learning after taking a 14-day intensive Chinese course. In the Chinese culture experience class in the afternoons, students were given chances to gain firsthand experience in learning interesting but distinctive traditional Chinese art cultures, such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, making dumplings, and singing Beijing Opera. All these activities are highly featured by Chinese characteristics. Students far away from their homeplaces enjoyed in finding pleasure in fascinating Chinese culture.
The off-campus practical experience during the Chinese learning program allowed students to personally learn about Chinese culture. Apart from the Xinghai Square and the Golden Pebble Beach in Dalian, students were organized to visit the Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, the Palace Museum, the Great Wall, in Beijing. And some of them said with a sign, "I love China!" when roaming at the Olympic Park and the Tiananmen Square.
From then on, the international students were given opportunities to personally explore Chinese culture that they used to learn from textbooks or social media. Most students expressed their intention to continue their studies at Dalian University of Technology (DUT) in the future.
The summer camp launched by the Confucius Institute DUT-BSU not only opens a window for Belarusian Chinese enthusiasts to learn more about China, but also paves the path for jointly cultivating talents striving to enhance the friendship between China and Belarus.
