In May 2023, the Selection of International Chinese Teacher Volunteers 2023 was successfully completed in which 4 Chinese teacher volunteers were selected and assigned to teach at Confucius Institute, Belarusian State University. This volunteer selection was organized by Management Office of Confucius Institute, School of International Education.
For the selection of International Chinese Teacher Volunteers, DUT always gives priority to quality first and designs selection process scientifically. This selection process includes early online recruitment promotion, scene briefing, online psychological test, professional knowledge written examination, comprehensive interview and foreign side interview. 60 interviewees are students from more than 10 universities including Dalian University of Technology, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Capital Normal University, Sichuan University, Jinan University and Central University for Nationalities.
In order to enable DUT students to have a comprehensive understanding of international Chinese teacher volunteer program, encourage more students to participate in international promotion of Chinese language and assist students in smooth application, introduction and communication sharing activity was successfully held in Smart Classroom on March 3. More than 40 students who are studying at School of International Education, graduate from School of Foreign Languages and postgraduates were present. Teacher in charge introduced volunteer program, selection & assignment process and policy interpretation. Previous volunteers shared their teaching and lives in Belarus. Chinese Dean of Confucius Institute, Belarusian State University was invited to introduce the work and answered questions.
On April 8, after resume screening, 30 candidates were picked up to take examination (including two parts- online written examination and psychological test). Online written examination includes 5 items, which are basic knowledge, application ability, cross-cultural communication, China's national conditions and emergency response. Examination was supervised by two cameras and invigilated online throughout the way. After that, psychological test was conducted in Mental Health Education and Counseling Center.
On April 15, 12 candidates won qualification for comprehensive interview, which was both taken remotely and face to face. Through triple assessment including trial lecture, foreign language proficiency and comprehensive ability, candidates’ Chinese teaching to foreigners, cross-cultural communication and foreign language proficiency were thoroughly assessed. All candidates presented their personal teaching ability and cultural literacy. Interview was serious but dynamic and the whole process moved along at a slow but orderly pace. On April 19, overseas teacher team of Confucius Institute conducted a remote interview with 8 candidates, assessed their comprehensive abilities and job matching degree and finally determined the list of international Chinese teacher volunteers 2023.
Next, volunteers will take pre-job training organized by Center For Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), who will, if qualified, be selected as international Chinese teacher volunteers 2023 and assigned to teach at Confucius Institute, Belarus National University for 1 year. After assignment, DUT will carry out daily management, teaching guidance, on-the-job training, and performance evaluation for them.
Now DUT has a complete work system of examination, selection, assignment and management for international Chinese teacher volunteers, thereby ensuring the high quality and sustainable development of Chinese teacher resources at overseas Confucius Institute.
