Beijing, December 22, 2023 - A representative team from SIE's International Chinese Education graduate program in the Northeast region participated in the 2023 "Chinese Language Teaching Idols" National Exchange organized by the International Chinese Education Professional Master's Degree Education Guidance Committee and Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education. The event took place from December 21 to 22 in Beijing. The outstanding performance of SIE's student team earned them the Innovative Resource Team Award.

With the theme "Creating High-Quality Chinese Classrooms", this exchange event attracted participation from 142 institutions and 178 teams nationwide. After regional selections in the Northeast, North China, East China, Southwest, Northwest, and Central South regions, a total of 18 teacher teams and 18 student teams advanced to the final exchange. Additionally, representatives from overseas, including the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, joined domestic teachers in exchanging teaching methods and skills. Over 100 local Chinese teachers from approximately 50 countries and regions were present for on-site learning and observation.

The award-winning student team from our school, representing the Northeast region, included master's students Liu Wenlu, Zhang Shuting, Lin Yuqing, and Li Yuhan from the 2022 International Chinese Education program. Associate Professors Xu Dan, Guo Hanning, and Dr. Wang Jiatian served as the team's guiding teachers. The team excelled in the intense competition in the Northeast region, earning them the opportunity to participate in the national exchange event.

During the exchange, SIE's team showcased their course titled "Cultural Harmony in Suzhou Gardens." Grounded in cultural constructivism, the course integrated teaching philosophies and methods such as production-oriented teaching, CLIL, and cooperative learning. Starting from tangible elements in Suzhou gardens, the team explored the traditional Chinese cultural spirit of "harmony" hidden behind them. The course aimed to guide international students in understanding Chinese cultural values while emphasizing the development of their ability to "tell Chinese stories", making them effective communicators of Chinese culture. The presentation received high praise from industry experts and peers. Professor Ye Jun from East China Normal University, a member of the International Chinese Education Professional Master's Degree Education Guidance Committee, highly commended our team's course design, stating that it innovatively combines the interpretation of traditional cultural values with the cultivation of storytelling skills, aligning with the recent proposal by Vice Premier Ding Xuxiang to deepen cooperation in language and cultural exchange in international Chinese education.

"Chinese Language Teaching Idols", as a significant event in the field of international Chinese education, plays a crucial role in promoting the training of talent and the construction of teacher teams, as well as driving the high-quality development of international Chinese education.

SIE's master's program in International Chinese Education has consistently focused on achieving professional training goals and valuing practical-oriented talent development. Students receive systematic teaching and practical training from the beginning of their studies. The program has established a comprehensive practical ability training system, aiming to enhance students' overall practical capabilities. The outstanding achievements of our school's student team in this edition of "Chinese Language Teaching Idols" fully demonstrate the effectiveness of our International Chinese Education program in cultivating practical talents. In the future, the program will continue to explore how to organically integrate "Chinese language + culture + national conditions + application" teaching and how to combine talent training with disciplinary development. Through competitions, it will consistently improve the quality of international Chinese teacher training, contributing continuously to the school's "Double First-Class" construction and international development.
