From June 29 to 30, 2024, the Liaoning Province International Chinese Language Education Teaching Skills Competition was held at School of International Education, DUT. This competition is guided by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education and hosted by the Liaoning Education International Exchange Association with Dalian University of Technology as the organizer. It aims to further strengthen the construction of teaching teams and high-quality talent training in the field of international Chinese language education in Liaoning province, while also providing a platform for display and exchange for universities within the province. The competition lasted two days, with 64 teachers and students from 32 universities within the province participating. After the selection in the semi-finals, a total of 24 teachers and 12 students advanced to the finals.
At the opening ceremony, Duan Yuping, Dean of the School of International Education delivered a speech expressing the hope that by organizing such events, we can promote exchange and cooperation among universities, and work together to drive the high-quality development of international Chinese language education in Liaoning Province. At the same time, through the competition, we aim to identify and cultivate a group of outstanding talents in international Chinese language education, injecting new vitality into the international Chinese language education efforts of Liaoning Province and even the nation as a whole.
Three renowned experts in the field of international Chinese language education, including Professor Li Quan from Renmin University of China, Professor Ye Jun from East China Normal University, and Professor Li Baogui from Liaoning Normal University delivered insightful presentations on topics such as Chinese character teaching in the information age, characteristics of international Chinese language education in the new era, and its development directions and trends. These reports were greatly appreciated by the teachers and students who came to participate in or observe the competition.
The judges for this competition are Professor Li Quan, Professor Ye Jun, Professor Li Baogui, Professor Jin Xiaoyan from Northeast Normal University, President Zhang Wei of the Liaoning Provincial Education International Exchange Association's Branch for Study in China, Professor Cao Ru from the School of International Education at Liaoning Normal University, Associate Professor Chen Zijiao from the School of Chinese Studies at Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Associate Professor Deng Lili from the School of International Education at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Associate Professor Zhao Chunqiu from the School of International Education at Liaoning University, and Associate Professor Xu Dan from our school's School of International Education. These 10 experts and scholars from both within and outside the province are specialized in the field of international Chinese language education.
The competition was divided into two categories: teachers and students. The final round included three parts: lesson presentation, teaching demonstration, and Q&A, comprehensively assessing the overall quality and teaching abilities of the participants. Participants showcased their strengths through exquisite courseware production, creative teaching designs, and vivid on-site performances, demonstrating solid professional foundations and exquisite teaching skills. The meticulous critiques and guidance from the judges also provided valuable learning opportunities for the participants. After two days of intense competition, the first, second, third prizes, and excellence awards of the 2024 Liaoning Province International Chinese Language Teaching Skills Competition were ultimately decided.
On the afternoon of June 30th, the closing ceremony was held. Director Han Dongmei of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation at the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Han Dongmei stated that this competition is an important initiative to promote high-quality development of international Chinese language education in Liaoning Province, enhance cultural exchanges between China and other countries. She hopes that the participating teachers and students will integrate the gains and achievements from the competition into their daily teaching and learning activities, fulfilling the responsibilities and missions entrusted by history and the era. By using Chinese language and culture as a bridge, they should tell Chinese stories well and make contributions to the cause of international Chinese language education.
The organization of this competition has provided a platform for international Chinese language teachers in Liaoning Province to showcase, exchange, and communicate ideas, significantly promoting the development of international Chinese language education in the province.
