On December 6th, 2024, the 35th Chinese Speech Contest for International Students of Dalian University of Technology, hosted by the School of International Education, came to a successful conclusion in the lecture hall of the Bochuan Library. Prof. Duan Yuping, the dean of the School of International Education, attended the speech contest and delivered a speech. Teachers and students from SIE as well as other schools were present to watch the contest.
Since the releasing of contest notice on November 13, it has received extensive attention from international students. Through rounds of selections, 33 students from 15 countries were shortlisted for the final. The competitors were divided into three groups of primary, intermediate and advanced levels. On the site, they were very expressive in that from their own unique perspectives, they told their own stories about China, their indissoluble bonds with China and the colorful China in their eyes. Whether it was the study of the Chinese language which is the key to opening up a diverse world, the ripples by the Yellow Crane Tower that was better seen in person than just heard about, the exploration journey of Chinese culture with its charm of traditional Chinese clothing, the witness to the innovation stories of "China's Intelligent Manufacturing", or the deep feelings for the Chinese people's patriotism and their kindness and sincerity, all left a deep impression on the audience present.
After fierce competition, SHEIKH IMADUDIN ABUBAKAR from Somalia (of primary group), SUPHITSARA KHLUEANSUNGNOEN from Thailand (of intermediate group) and IKEDA SHUN from Japan (of advanced group) won the first prizes in their respective groups with their speeches titled "China in the Fragrance of Tea", "Colorful China in My Eyes" and "In Search of the Open-mindedness of the Chinese People"; Six contestants including ANZHELIKA EGOROVA from Russia, HAI VAN HOANG from Vietnam and GWANGEUN JO from South Korea won the second prizes. Eleven contestants including ALI SALIM AMNI from the Comoros, ANASTASIIA SUKHORUKOVA from Ukraine and GRACESELA KRISTIANA AVIANTO from Indonesia etc. won the third prizes. Thirteen contestants including NURYAGDY GELDIYEV from Turkmenistan, JEAN FRANK CORONADO MARTINEZ from Venezuela and CHARLES CHUKWUKA ANEKWE from Nigeria etc. won the honorable mention.

In addition, the students from the first and second grades of the Chinese Language Training Center also carefully prepared performances of Chinese songs, demonstrating the achievements of their Chinese learning in more than two months in another way.
This contest provided a stage for international students to display the achievements of their Chinese learning, improved students' oral Chinese expression abilities, and enhanced their enthusiasm and initiative in learning Chinese and understanding Chinese culture. The Chinese Speech Contest for International Students of Dalian University of Technology has been successfully held for 34 sessions so far. In the future, SIE will insist on organizing a variety of Chinese cultural activities and Chinese contests, and provide a platform for international students to show themselves in their Chinese language learning process.
