The Talk about China by International Alumni-The Frost's Descent

October 24, 2023  Click:[]

Hi,everyone.I'm Victoria Troya.

It feels like just yesterday I arrived in Dalian to embark on my journey of learning the Chinese language and pursuing my master's degree at Dalian University of Technology. And now, 6 years later, here I am in Dalian with my husband, Daniel, who also graduated from DUT, and our beautiful daughter.

A year into my studies, destiny brought Daniel into my life. It was at north gate of Dalian University of Technology in 2018 where we first crossed paths. Little did I know that this serendipitous encounter would lead to a remarkable love story. We grew inseparable, supporting each other through our academic pursuits and cherishing every moment we shared.

Fast forward to today, we are happily married and blessed with a two-year-old daughter. It warms my heart to see her growing up, attending a kindergarten in China, and eagerly learning the language of this beautiful country that has become our second home. DUT has been our sanctuary for almost six years now, and we have fallen in love with its romantic charm. It is here that we have grown as individuals, found love, got engagef and got married, and created a family. The school holds a special place in our hearts, and we are grateful for all the memories we have made here.

To the students and teachers of Dalian University of Technology, I wish you all the best in your academic journey. May you find the same love and support that Daniel and I found within these walls. Cherish every moment, for these years will shape your future. And to the teachers who tirelessly guide and nurture us, thank you for your dedication and passion.

May Dalian University of Technology continue to be a place of growth, love, and inspiration for all who walk its halls.

Now,Let me introduce the frost's descent to you.

Frost's Descent is the 18th solar term among the 24 solar terms and the last solar term in autumn.

“Frost's Descent” usually happens on October 23 or October 24 each year when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 210 degrees.

As the last solar term in autumn, temperature in many places reach 0 degree Celsius. The vapor in the air freezes on the ground in the form of tiny ice needles or hexagonal flower shapes. The leaves fall and worms stop eating and prepare for hibernation.

As far as the national average is concerned, "Frost's Descent" is the season with the largest temperature difference between day and night in a year.

Since "frost" is the expression of cold weather and large variation of temperature difference between day and night, it is named after "frost's descent", which means "sudden drop of temperature and large temperature difference between day and night".

Frosted autumn leaves outshine February flowers in redness.

Autumn might be the most colorful season in China with the leaves turning from golden y ellow to red.Activities like hiking become popular as people take in the bright red leaves.

Reveling in the view is an old tradition starting in ancient times.Du Mu,a well-known poet from the Tang Dynasty (618-904) depicted the mountainous scenery in a poem:"1 stopped the coach as charmed by the maple woods; Frosted autumn leaves outshine February flowers in redness."

As the air temperature tends to drop unpredicably, remember to put on more clothes to keep warm.
